Barcelona Bans Bullfighting!
Wednesday, 28 July 2010 A huge victory for the bulls in Spain as Barcelona becomes the first Spanish region to ban bullfighting! Regional lawmakers voted 68-55 in favour of the ban. This was supported by 180,000 signatures from all around the world demanding the controversial sport become outlawed. It will come into effect in 2012.

Bullfighting was already on its way out in the region, with the number of bulls being challenged dropping from 6.369 in 2003 and 4,436 in 2009.

With this news, animal activists all over the world hope that other Spanish states and Spanish speaking countries, such as Mexico and Peru, follow suit.

No longer will bulls in Barcelona have to endure chilli being rubbed in their eyes, druggings, and being slowly stabbed to death whilst taunted and teased.
