The QLD and VIC Governments have ceased issuing licences to shoot flying foxes for fruit orchard protection. This decision was essential to ensure conservation and welfare needs for these animals were met. Yet, here in NSW licences are still being issued to allow orchard owners to shoot.

*Shooting is done during breeding season which means that young who have their mothers shot will be left to starve to death or will be open for predation
*Recent research shows that up to 30% of the bats will still be alive 8.5 hours after being shot. So for many, death is long and lingering
*Most of the flying foxes shot are grey-headed flying foxes, which are listed as a threatened species.

What can you do?
Join ALNSW and Sydney Mayor Clover Moore in a protest to ban the shooting of flying foxes in NSW outside Parliament House, Macquarie St, Sydney at 11:45am on Thursday the 10th of June 2010.

This protest could be the push needed to stop this cruelty, but we need you there to speak out for these animals and be their voice. The more people we have there, the stronger our message will be.
