Sunday the 30th of May saw yet another jumps race horse lose its life. Prince Vitality, a 7 year old gelding was killed on track during the King Alfred Steeplechase Prelude at Casterton. He mistimed his take-off, stumbled through the live hedge obstacle and came crashing to the ground, breaking his shoulder and his neck. This is another sickening accident leaving yet another horse dead. The death again highlights how horribly dangerous jumps racing really is. Prince Vitality was leading the five horse event when he fell to his death at the first hurdle. He was not tired, he was not impeded, he simply misjudged the jump and it has cost him his life. Now the blame game. Was it the obstacle, the jockey or was it the horse yet again? It is time we blame those really responsible; the ones who put the jumps out there in the first place and those who force the horses to jump it. We Need Your Help In response to this death, The Coalition will be holding a protest outside Minister Hulls' office this Tuesday 1st June. We will be demanding a meeting with the Minister to discuss an immediate ban of jumps racing. As we understand there will be a Minister's meeting in progress in the morning on the first floor of the Treasury Place building, we will start our protest from 10.00 am for those who can make it. For all others, please be there at 12.00pm. Details are as follows: Where: 1 Treasury Pl (off Spring St), East Melbourne (See Map) Date: Tuesday 1st June 2010 Dress Code: Please dress your best. Time: 12 noon (from 10.00am if possible) Duration: approx 1 hour RSVP:
